The Yard

Plot: Deniz Demir endures years of physical and emotional abuse from her toxic husband, Hakan. During an escalating violent confrontation at their home, their teenage daughter Ecem shoots her father to save her mother's life. Determined to protect her daughter, Deniz takes the blame and is incarcerated in a maximum-security women's prison. Thrust into an unforgiving environment, Deniz finds herself caught in the crossfire between two warring factions commanded by inmates Azra Kaya and Kudret Öztürk, alongside the iron-fisted cruelty of warden Zerrin Şahin. While Deniz tries to keep a low profile to reunite with Ecem, a devastating tragedy pushes her past the breaking point, transforming a timid mother into a hardened, ruthless powerhouse ruling the yard. Trivia: Produced by Limon Film and broadcast on Star TV from 2018 to 2019 across 2 seasons (44 episodes) before becoming an international sensation on Netflix, "Avlu" (*The Yard*) is the official Turkish adaptation of the hit Australian drama series "Wentworth." Directed by Yüksel Aksu, the series stars Demet Evgar as Deniz Demir, Ceren Moray as the rebellious Azra Kaya, and Nursel Köse as the villainous Kudret Öztürk. Renowned for its raw depiction of institutional corruption, systemic abuse, and gritty female solidarity, the show broke conventional Turkish television norms and received critical acclaim, particularly for Demet Evgar's intense emotional performance.
