Barış Alpaykut: A Path from Turkish Screens to the Samurai Dojo

Barış Alpaykut, a well-known Turkish actor associated with roles in the series "Sakarya Fırat," "Medcezir," and "Kara Sevda," leads a double life. Off-screen, he is a dedicated student and practitioner of the traditional Japanese martial art of Koryu Bujutsu.

According to research published in 2015, he studied samurai arts for over 15 years. During this time, he became one of the few foreign students of a 600-year-old samurai school in Japan and attained the level of a samurai.

On his Instagram page, he states that he is an instructor at the Katori Shintō Ryū school in Istanbul, holding the title of Shidōsha-Dairi. This is one of the oldest and most respected schools of Japanese martial arts, founded over 600 years ago, which preserves samurai techniques of swordsmanship and other weapons.

His Instagram account serves as visual confirmation of this path, featuring numerous photos with swords, in traditional clothing (kimono), and among Japanese masters.

The actor currently resides in Japan, where he likely continues to deepen his knowledge and practice, combining his acting career with his dedication to the samurai way.
