The Club

Set against the vibrant, cosmopolitan, yet politically volatile backdrop of 1950s Istanbul, the series follows Matilda Aseo, a Jewish woman newly released from prison under a general amnesty after serving 17 years for murder. Upon her release, Matilda's sole mission is to find and protect her estranged daughter, Raşel, who grew up in an orphanage, remains ignorant of her mother’s past, and has fallen for a handsome Turkish taxi driver and troublemaker, İsmet. To keep Raşel safe, Matilda is forced to take a job at Istanbul's most glamorous and revolutionary nightclub, owned by the ambitious Orhan. "The Club" functions as a dazzling micro-cosmos. Here, Matilda becomes the reluctant peacekeeper, transforming her workspace into a sanctuary for her eccentric co-workers. Among them is Selim Songür, a visionary, flamboyant, yet profoundly lonely stage performer determined to redefine the city's nightlife, and Çelebi, the strict club manager who shares a dark, unspoken history with Matilda. Spanning two seasons, their personal struggles collide with the heavy socio-political shifts of mid-20th-century Turkey, culminating in the tragic Istanbul Pogrom of 1955 that targeted the city's non-Muslim minorities. The second season leaps forward in time, exploring Raşel raising her daughter in a shifting landscape.
